ELEANOR LYONS | Role debut as Tatjana in Eugene Onegin

Following her highly acclaimed debut in the title role of Dvořák’s Rusalka in Brisbane (“Eleanor Lyons – who excels technically and expressively and is vocally magnificent as Rusalka” – Limelight Magazine), Eleanor Lyons seamlessly continues her series of role debuts and can also be seen for the first time as Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the West Australian Opera in Perth in the coming weeks. Directed by the Australian theatre and opera director Cameron Menzies and conducted by Christopher van Tuinen, she traces Tatyana’s development from a dreamy young girl to a self-determined woman, whose lyrical, psychologically nuanced melodies and emotional depth – one need only think of the famous letter scene – ranks among the most moving roles in Tchaikovsky’s operatic oeuvre.

Back in Europe, Eleanor returns to Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, the work she has performed most regularly on the concert stage in recent years. On 24 August, she will make her debut with this work at the Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-André, France, accompanied by the period-instrument orchestra Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, conducted by Jérémie Rhorer. The former abbey church of Saint-Antoine provides an equally impressive and atmospheric setting for this performance.
